False Home Security Alarms

Many people don't realize that false home security alarms can raise their tax bills. These false alarms are more common then you think, with estimates by police that up to 97% of burglary alarm calls turn out to be false alarms. The fact that police have to respond to all these false alarms poses a very high cost to local governments.
For example, the police department in Seattle estimates that it wastes over $1 million each year responding to these false alarms. It's not surprising, then, that cities around the country have been cracking down on the problem with new programs to educate their citizens. Some have even imposed fines on repeat offenders of up to $500. Improper installation is one of the causes of false alarms, but in most cases false alarms are caused by human error and careless operation.
